Particle Size Determination
Dynamic Light Scattering was a well-established method of sample analysis before in situ DLS was developed. Although in situ DLS is based on the same fundamental principles as DLS, the in situ capability was a breakthrough of profound significance. Several obstacles associated with DLS were overcome at once. Sample volume was reduced to unprecedented levels, cleaning steps were eliminated, and robustness of measurements in terms of sample purity, full automation and long-term monitoring capabilities were enabled. The characteristics of in situ Dynamic Light Scattering turned particle size determination from a time-consuming and often tedious procedure into a fast, highly reliable and efficient way to assess sample quality.
